How To Clean Gutters
Step 1

Wear the appropriate attire: a long-sleeved shirt or jacket and rubber gloves.

Step 2

Set up your ladder securely, and try not to damage your gutters by setting it up on a weak spot. We also recommend getting a bucket and hooking it on your ladder to make your work easier and cleaner.

Step 3

Remove your gutter cover or guard.

Step 4

Get any leaves, dirt or other debris out of your gutters with a scoop or with your hands.

Step 5

Get a garden hose and flush your gutters with water until they flow properly.

Step 6

Check for proper water flow on your downspouts. You can determine if there’s a clog by monitoring the volume of water coming out.

Step 7

Place your gutter guards or covers again and check that the gutters are securely attached.

How do I know if I need new gutters?

If your gutters are showing one or more of these symptoms, you probably need new ones:

1. A large number of cracks, holes or rust spots.

2. Several broken fasteners.

3. Nails or screws on the ground.

4. Separated gutters.

5. Gutters pulling away from the roof.

6. Sagging or improperly pitched gutters.

7. Peeling of exterior paint.

8. Dirt channels or pooling water.
